I'm sorry, I've lost my info on the two above except they are tapestries, the first Gypsy Camp and the second Gypsy Fair
Early Gypsies
In this section, I reproduce a number of pictures from many countries showing Gypsies from relatively early times.
I have split it into time periods and give as much relevant information as I can about each picture - where I have it!

Pre 1450
Above, Gypsies on the March, French tapestry, c 1450
Late 15th C
The drawing below left is reputedly from an English Master of the Household Book dating between 1476 and 1480 and shows Egyptian with Blank Shield. The one below right is a very similar drawing, also from a Master of the Household book, also English, dated 1476-80, 'Woman with 2 Children and Blank Shield'. However, further research makes me believe it is Dutch, not English as it originated from records in Amsterdam.

The above picture is a Victorian oil painting of a Belgian tapestry dating from 1520 or before. It shows a Gypsy and a juggler. That below is of the 'Egyptian woman' who restored the health of the King of Scotland (probably James V) after he was given up as lost by his own doctors. Notice her turban.
